Gut health refers to the flora that lives in your digestive tract that is responsible for digesting your food. Researchers are continually finding more evidence that your gut health is related to your neurological (brain) function as well as your immune function and overall health. Leaky gut syndrome, digestive issues such as lactose intolerance, or other food intolerances/ allergies can cause damage to the digestive tract that can effect people in a number of terrible ways.
As more people learn about the importance of gut bacteria, the food industry has taken off with products that advertise probiotic, and prebiotic properties as well as a number of other industry buzz words meant to sell products.
Traditional yogurt is made from adding bacterial culture to milk and allowing it to incubate for a period of time. There are a number of factors including which strain of culture is used, and the fat content of the milk that causes the milk to solidify into the product we recognize as yogurt. Some commercially produced yogurt has additives such as chicory root, gelatin, agar agar, pectin, milk powder and others that are meant to thicken the product while cutting down on the processing time and creating a uniform product. All yogurt that contains bacteria culture is probiotic. Prebiotic yogurt is yogurt that contains added fibre.
Goat's Pride yogurt is made simply from goat milk and bacterial culture that is incubated for a full 12 hours reducing the already low lactose content of goat milk significantly further. We add no fillers, thickeners or extra ingredients. The consistency of our yogurt naturally fluctuates throughout the seasons as the fat content of the milk naturally fluctuates. Winter milk, when the goats are less active, typically produces a thicker yogurt, whereas summer milk produces yogurt that pours well on cereal, makes an excellent topping for fruit, or add a little lemon and dill for a beautiful salad dressing or topping for warm vegetables.
Our yogurt also comes in blueberry flavour (made with organic blueberries and organic sugar), and vanilla (made with pure vanilla extract and organic sugar).
Consumption of traditionally produced yogurt and other fermented foods like kefir, increases the good bacteria in your digestive tract and improves your immunity by crowding out bad bacteria such as H Pylori.
Goat milk cells are 1/5TH the size of dairy milk cells, making them easier to digest for those with digestive issues. When made into yogurt, cultures convert the lactose in goat milk into lactic acid, making it suitable for people with lactose intolerance. Goat milk is nutritiously balanced, with protein, vitamins, and minerals, with a profile more closely resembling human milk than cow's milk.
